Hello, and welcome to Linguist Wiki.
Linguist Wiki is a wiki dedicated to Language. We are also beginning to compile a database of every single natural language existing today. If we are successful with this, ancient languages may be added.
Also, we are beginning to develop a News section, for all linguistics and language news. Of course, a story of this is rare, so we'll have full coverage of any stories that do appear.
New here? We suggest you take a look at our Help section, located at Help:Contents.

Welcome
Edit
Once again, welcome. Here, at the Linguist Wiki, we hope to answer any questions you may have of languages, and maybe more. Language is how more than 6.5 billion people communicate; each day. There are several thousand languages in the world... some spoken by as many as 1.5 billion people, some as little as 250 people. Read on to learn what we are going to try and accomplish.
Our Goal
Edit
Our goal, besides teaching the general public a little bit about languages, is to compile a database with information on every known natural language to man at the present time. If we have success with this goal, our next one will be to compile all ANCIENT languages known to man (ones not spoken today, but were spoken before our time, such as Latin).
Update on Our Goal
Edit
Work has begun on our goal! We hope to have a good description of every currently spoken natural language (ones that are official to countries). Stay tuned.
Information
Edit
As we just opened this Wiki on February 13, 2006, it's relatively new. Don't expect too much content in the near, near future, as we have to get the basics done first.
Language News, etc.
Edit
News of languages, and all that great stuff will eventually be recorded. As mentioned above, there isn't that much news somewhat related to language, but when there is, we'll obviously be right on top of it in a NewsCentre we're planning.
